Greetings from the Long Island Wine Council

Boy, are we lucky!

Robert Palmer, president
Long Island Wine Council

Every day when we open the paper we see the same headlines: “Gas prices

at an all-time high” and “Airline fares are up again.” According to The

New York Times, airline surcharges often exceed the price of the ticket

— it can cost over $100 for a second checked bag. Gone, at least for a

while, are the drives down South to take a whirl in a giant teacup or

the inexpensive flights to California to try the wines of some new Napa

winery.

Why are we lucky? Because we have it all right here

(except for the giant teacup). Long Island Wine Country offers the

perfect vacation venue. If it’s only for a day or for a week, we have

everything right at our doorstep: a water park, an aquarium, some of

the area’s best restaurants, a variety of wine shops and, of course,

over 40 wineries and tasting rooms.

Most impressive at our tasting

rooms is the variety of wines we offer. If you were to go to Oregon,

you would be hard-pressed to find wines other than Pinot Noir. In Napa

and Sonoma, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are featured. Here on

Long Island, we offer not only the basics, but the visitor can also try

Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Blanc, our signature

Merlot and many more.

So, make Long Island Wine Country your

vacation destination, and tell all your friends about us. If you can’t

make it out for a visit, be sure to order Long Island wines at your

favorite restaurant or wine shop.
