2nd Council District: Bonner vs. Leonard   42 comments below

2nd District Candidates

Jane Bonner (C)

Incumbent from Rocky Point, seeking second term

Previous occupation: Legislative aide, Suffolk County

Why is she seeking re-election?

Ms. Bonner said she hopes to continue to make government run more efficiently and be more accountable to the residents, touting her support of the initiative to install GPS systems in town vehicles and her policy that ended the use of take-home cars for town employees as examples of her previous efforts. She has vowed to continue to make the preservation of open space a priority, if re-elected, and "to continue to stabilize taxes." She said she wants to look at more public/private partnerships within the town to increase revenues during the economic downturn. She also said she hopes to continue studying the impacts of proposed development along Route 25A, protecting the future of the North Shore.

Her two cents: "I have a bottom-up approach to problem solving, bringing all the stakeholders together to solve whatever problems we have in our communities."

Twenty questions:

1. If elected, will you cut taxes next year?

No! I certainly won't vote to raise them!

2. How would you grade the current Brookhaven Town Board?

B.

3. Which hamlet in your district currently needs the most attention?

Coram and Rocky Point, equally.

4. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the safest), how safe is downtown Rocky Point?

Eight.

5. Does downtown Rocky Point need sewers?

The Suffolk County sewer study will let us know. Environmentally, sewers are better.

6. Have the Caithness funds been spent wisely?

No.

7. Could the town's sex offender residency restriction laws be more stringent?

Only if the proposed changes don't negate laws currently on the books.

8. Do you think the hiring of park rangers was money well spent?

Yes.

9. Does the town need its own Justice Court to prosecute code violations and other quality-of-life issues?

Yes.

10. Should the public information office and economic development department be returned to the supervisor's office?

No.

11. Does the town need a Community Preservation Fund?

Yes, especially if we don't continue to fund through bonds.

12. Should the Mott House be replaced with a community center?

Only if there is no cost to the taxpayers.

13. Does Kathy Walsh do a good job in the role of deputy supervisor?

No, she can't have two masters. It is obviously a conflict.

14. Do you believe Town Board meetings run more smoothly since Mark Lesko took office in April?

Sometimes.

15. If elected, would you hold more than one job?

No.

16. Are Town Board members compensated fairly?

Yes.

17. If you could eliminate one particular job title from town government, what would it be?

Deputy supervisor.

18. Have the GPS and vehicle control policies been good for the town thus far?

Yes.

19. Is Sandy Hills a good project?

No, it is harmful to the Carmans River.

20. Tell us one good thing about your opponent.

He is funny and quick-witted.

Show us the money

John Leonard (D)

Mount Sinai resident and deputy town supervisor seeking first elected office

Occupation: Attorney

Why is he running?

Mr. Leonard is focused largely on the economy and he is running on a four-point plan to fix our communities. Included in his plan are designs to help redevelop the former Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant site and turning it into a cutting-edge research and manufacturing hub for alternative energy. He also said he hopes to implement a tax abatement program for new businesses interested in moving to the area. He also vowed to look into a tax stabilization plan for seniors and to help area youth by "fighting to combat the exploding heroin and prescription drug epidemic" on the North Shore.

His two cents: "For me it all comes down to the future of this area, the economic stability of this area, and the belief that if we don't do something now there is no economic future here."

Twenty questions:

1. If elected, will you cut taxes next year?

No.

2. How would you grade the current Brookhaven Town Board?

7. Could the town's sex offender residency restriction laws be more stringent?

8. Do you think the hiring of park rangers was money well spent?

Undecided, still need to see returns.

17. If you could eliminate one particular job title from town government, what would it be?

Chief legislative aide.

18. Have the GPS and vehicle control policies been good for the town thus far?

Mostly, needs some adjustments.

19. Is Sandy Hills a good project?

Yes.

20. Tell us one good thing about your opponent.

She cares deeply about her community.

Jane vs. Leonard : 11/4/2009
This was a hard fought election for each candidate involved. Unfortunately for the candidates, when it comes down to it there can only be won victor. The constituents that felt it was important enough to vote yesterday decided that Jane Bonner was the person they wanted to have in office. That being said congratulations is in order to Jane Bonner. I wish her the best of luck in office and hope that she does in fact represent all of the people in her district this time around. Sincerely, Tom Farrell VP - NYCRF

JANE E. BONNER IN A LANDSLIDE : 11/3/2009
It is now very clear that Councilwoman JANE BONNER has been elected to a second term. The Suffolk County Board of Elections is reporting that with all 50 of the precincts in Council District 2 reporting, the results are as follows: JANE E. BONNER - 6,974 55% John Leonard - 5,810 45% As a supporter of Jane, I want to thank all of you who participated in conversations on this web site for months. The fishermen and fisherwomen who live in Council District 2 will be well represented for the next two years as you have during the past two. I want to thank everybody who voted for my favorite candidate, Jane Bonner. Those of you who did not vote for Jane will still be welcome in her office at any time you need help! She works hard for everybody. God Bless all of you and God Bless America!

JANE IS ANTI RECREATIONAL FISHING : 11/3/2009
"#4. Would you be in favor of having a Recreational Fishing Advisory Board for The Town of Brookhaven with advisors not having fi nancial interest with the Town? Mark Lesko: Yes Martin Haley: Did not respond to Questionnaire Jane Bonner: Yes John Leonard: Yes,because I believe the doors should always be open at Town Hall. The advisory board should be comprised of a mix of people ,a mix of ideas and a mix of opinions. " It is funny how Jane answered with a simple yes to the question. She is still currently trying to hinder recreational fishing relations in the Town of Brookhaven and is attempting to place a gentleman on the Advisory Board who lobbys the town for commercial interest. She has a working relationship with this attorney. The truth about you and Scott is out Miss Bonner.

Vote for Leonard : 11/3/2009
Jane Bonner is claiming that the Shoreham Nuclear Site is contaminated with residual nuclear waste. How would she know this is true? This would be the first time she didn't jump on the opportunity to spend a fortune on another study. It is also public record that there is no contamination. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) confirmed that post-decommissioning radiological survey measurements met the criteria for unrestricted release for non-residential land uses. I assume that is not good enough for Jane being that she did not spend several hundred thousand of our tax dollars for her own study. John Leonard has real plans for the site which could benefit everyone in the Town of Brookhaven. However all Jane does is continue to scoff at the real issues. Perhaps all she cares about is the rest of the ferrile cats? We need someone with a higher level of education in office than what we currently have. Nobody else wanted the job of councilperson in district 2 last time around. Now that we have the right individual it is time to give him the chance. Make the educated choice and vote for John Leonard today.

Lesko and Leonard : 11/3/2009
Lesko and Leonard is the team we need in office. Each of them are very well educated and have the experience needed to lead the Town to prosperity. They have also proven to work in a bi-partisan manner. They have suceeded in doing so like no other has ever done so in the past. They are the fresh faces we needed in Government.

: 11/3/2009
I agree with the last post. Apparently not too many of these posters go to meet the candidates nights...especially the one where Jane stated that all Feral cats should be killed. Jane has a history of Drama, she is also uneducated to hold a position in office. Whereas, we need people who can think on their own, make educated choices without constantly wasting taxpayers money on study after study....as far as raising taxes...have any one of you checked your mortgage statement recently...your taxes did go up...the town of Brookhaven has no control over our taxes... there is less revenue coming in and when push comes to shove, we, the taxpayer will pay whether we like it or not. We don't have a choice. Leave Long Island....that's the only way out....

Jane didn't make too many friends last year. : 11/3/2009
I happen to be a Republican, Combat Veteran, Homeowner, parent and last but not least an active voter. To see what Jane Bonner has done by violating the rights of the fisherman and by her lack of action in there community there is no doubt I will have to swing my vote towards John Leonard. I was at the meeting at the Rocky Point VFW last year when Jane pulled her childish crap. I was also at the eco meeting where she comitted political suicide. She was responsible for the closure of Shoreham Beach because of her and a select few of you that have a problem with the Hispanic community. I will not condone her actions and I will vote against her. She should be the one running under the liberal ticket. We have witnessed Lesko and Leonard both working in a bi-partisan manner not Bonner. She needs to go and leonard deserves a chance. He has the education and the experience needed behind him. Unlike the incompetent cry baby we currently have in office. Those who vote for her support discrimination.

JANE BONNER AND HUMAN RIGHTS : 11/2/2009
Anybody who argues that Jane Bonner has violated the rights of "thousands" of people is suffering from a hangover. Jane supports human rights. There is no public official today who has given stronger support for the men and women in the United States Military who are fighting for us in Iraq, Afghanistan and other trouble spots around the world. She supports freedom. The Veterans love her. The troops love her. She has no equal when it comes to battling for freedom.

SHOREHAM BEACH : 11/2/2009
Kathy Walsh, the Republican Councilwoman from District 3 in Centereach voted to close Shoreham Beach on a temporary basis.. Mark Lesko made Kathy Walsh his Deputy Supervisor with a $50,000.00 salary increase. Therefore, simple logic would suggest that anybody who is upset about the temporary closing of Shoreham Beach should be getting out the vote to defeat Mark Leesko, Kathy Walsh and John Leonard. Jane Bonner loves the fishermen and fisherwomen of Council District 2. She serves all constituents regardless of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation and political affiliation.

LEONARD AND LESKO ARE LIBERALS : 11/2/2009
The person who posted the comment that Mark Lesko and John Leonard are not liberals has got to be kidding. They are not "non partisan." They are bitter parisans who sense that Jane Bonner will win by a substantial margin. Their response is to lie about her record and attack her personal life. They have nothing nice to say about John Leonard. All they can do is smear Jane Bonner. This proves they are desperate partisans who sense that defeat is at hand, They both support President Obama's vision for America. High taxes, appeasement of the terrorists, socialism, amnesty and Chicago style politics for Brookhaven.

stop smearing jane??????????? : 11/2/2009
Talk about being thin skinned. Apparently the truth must hurt. Jane is far from a voice of the people. She spear headed the closure of Shoreham Beach and violated the rights of thousands of people by doing so. All of us are extremely lucky that it did not lead to a lawsuit. It could have cost the tax payers tens of thousands of dollars. More wasted money caused by Jane. After all she sure does like wasting money at our expense. Just ask her friends at Fairfield.

Sewage Waste in Rocky Point? : 11/2/2009
The only thing that will require the installation of sewers in Rocky Point, is the waste matter being distributed by the liberal Democrats in their campaign literature.

Jane violated the rights of thousands. : 11/2/2009
Jane Bonner violated the rights of thousands of citizens in the Town of Brookhaven when she spear headed ths closure of Shoreham Beach. Some of her political cronies are on hear spreading that she did not have the power to close the beach on her own and that the rest of the board voted for the closure as well. I ask them this, then how did the vote even come up before the board? Did the idea of the closure come out of left field somewhere? You may have already guessed it, Jane Bonner is to blame. At the Shoreham Civic meeting last year she vowed to her mentor in public I might add that she will find a way to have the beach shut down. Some of you seem to think the the PUBLIC beach is your own little private beach. Jane and her little cronies thought wrong. Some of you claim it had to be shut down for a temporary emergency situation. Would you care to share what that might be? Or would it label you as discriminatory and possibly even a racist. I am actually quite surprised anyone stands next to her politically after what she stated at the Eco meeting. She blamed just about everything on the new hispanic population. It is all out in the open however some of you chose to continue to vote blindly due to party affiliation. I hear there may be an opening at the Deli over on Broadway for her?

STOP SMEARING JANE BONNER!!!! : 11/2/2009
To the person who commented that anybody who attacks the opponents of Jane Bonner is "sick in the head," please remember that Jane Bonner, like all Americans, is entitled to a defense. She has been viciously attacked on these pages for weeks, but those who attack her, like you, cannot take any criticism in return. Nobody has called you anything worse than a liberal. If the shoe fits, wear it! If you are not a liberal, you will be voting for Jane. Do not be so thinned skinned! Do you expect all of Jane's friends and supporters to sit back and give you free reign of the internet to attack our candidate? NO! It will never happen. Jane Bonner is a wonderful person who is devoted to her religious faith and her constituents. She is a woman of the people. You and the rest of the people who are smearing her should take a good look at yourselves in the mirror. Stop being a crybaby, because somebody called you a liberal. As President Harry Truman used to say, 'If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

its gonna be Leonard : 11/2/2009
Why do some of you resort to calling Lesko and Leonard liberals? Just because someone is a Democrat they are autmatically labeled a liberal? The last I have seen is that Mark Lesko and John Leonard have been working in a bi-partisan nature. That is something Jane Bonner has never done. Jane only looks out for Jane. She couldn't care less about anyone else. She also seems to forget that council district 2 is much larger than just Rocky Point. John Leonard is campaining with the real issues that matter to all of us. Jane is campaigning with no issues at all. She looked beaten at the Leisure Glenn meeting. She also admitted infront of everyone at that meeting that she is not sure if she wants it anymore just like McCarrick whom she replaced. She can't handle any pressure at all. We need somebody in there that can. Mr. Leonard deserves a chance.

THERE ARE NO POLLS : 11/2/2009
The person who claims Jane Bonner is losing in the polls is not being candid. There are no local scientific polls. There may be some informal polls, and if anybody has seen them, share the resuits with us. Tell us who conducted them, who commissioned them and who paid for them. How was the poll conducted and can we see the raw results? Simply saying that 3 out of 5 of the people who you have spoken to are voting against Jane may be truthful, but it means nothing if you only talk to liberals. As this newspaper pointed outr in its editorial endorsing Jane for another term, liberals Leonard and Lesko are attacking Jane with personal smears. It is something that all candidates do when they are losing and sense impedning doom. Your ":poll" has not brought any confort to the Liberal Leonard, Lesko Laufer losers.

Brookhaven is not Queens : 11/2/2009
If it is up to both Jane and Dan there will be sewers in Rocky Point and Fairfield would be breaking ground on their massive development. It still might happen, I know the sewers will.

Jane will be history Tuesday : 11/1/2009
Jane is history come Tuesday. She will not win this election. I checked the latest polls and spoke to many people and 3 out of 5 are not voting for her. Jane will lose. So keep up the good work and vote Jane Bonner out. Some people cannot face up to the fact, she is not doing what the taxpayers of this town voted her in for. These are facts check for your self. Now the same person will respond with attacks that I am a liberal and so on, face it she is finished Tuesday voted out..

You a sick person : 11/1/2009
The person who is attacking people and calling them all kinds of names seems to be sick in the head. People are just giving their input and are being attacked buy you. I think you have a mental problem and should seek mental help.

THE REPUIBLICAN FISHERMAN? : 11/1/2009
You are not a Republican and you are not a fisherman. You are an ultra-liberal Democrat who is spreading misinformation of this website. Jane Bonner does not have the power or the authority to close Shoreham Beach. That was accomplished, on a temporary basis, by means of a unanimous resolution of the Town Board. Jane voted the same way as Councilwoman Kathy Walsh of Council District 3. Kathy was appointed Mark Lesko's Deputy with a $50,000.00 salary increase. Why would Lesko choose a Deuty who votes with Jane? The important point is that you are not holding Lesko and Walsh accountable for anything. Kathy votes with Jane. Jane is a sinner, but Kathy is a saint. You hate Jane, but you praise Lesko and Walsh. You are a fraud. Take off you mask. Holloween is over. You say Jane "misled" the other members of the Town Board, in which case, they should all resign for being "misled" by Jane. Jane won the Republican primary with 78% of the vote. Surely the Republican fishermen and fisherwomen voted for her. They will vote for her again Tuesday. Its Jane Bonner in a landslide. She will be the voice of the recreational fishermen and fisherwomen who live in Council Distict 2 for another 2 years. Get used to it.!

Republican and a fisherman : 11/1/2009
I am a Republican and a fisherman. It turns my stomach to see what the anti fishing Jane Bonner has done in her district. It also turns my stomach to see that the town board fell for misled antics that led to the closure of the beach. Jane Bonner even went as far to threaten fisherman by telling them they will be treated as criminal if they were to pass through the beach with fishing gear. Shame on you Jane. I will be voting for Mr. Leonard this time around. It is time for someone else to have a chance. Beyond fishing Mr. Leonard has the intelligence we need to lead and improve our town. If you ahve attended any of the meetings you will see that he is in tune with the issues that matter to everyone such as the local economy. Jane did not campaign with anything regarding the issues that effect all of us. As a matter of fact she never has and never will. Also the puppet talk about Mr. Leonard needs to stop. If anyone is to be called a puppet it should be Jane Bonner for having Mr. Amper pulling her strings all of the time. She has yet to make a decision on her own. Actually she has made one decision and that was to take credit for the gps in the town cars which had little to do with her. The gps was a long work in progress. She flips and flops entirely too much for a so called conservative. Her actions speak much loider than words. She is no doubt a liberal. Mr. Leonard may be under teh Democrats ticket however there is no doubt that I and several others will be casting our educated votes in his direction.

BROOKHAVEN IS NOT QUEENS! : 11/1/2009
The person who claims that Councilwoman Jane Bonner wants Rocky Point to look like Queens shold know better. For the past 150 years, Queens has been run by Democrats who are the philosophical soul mates of John Leonard and Mark Lesko. Jane supports open space and the preservation of her community. Conservatives want to conserve. Jane and Dan Losquadro fight hard to get open space at every opportunity. If you really want to preseve the essential character of Rocky Point, suppoprt the candidate fro m Rocky Point. Do not support a Lesko puppet who never had an independent political thought of his own.

READ THE WHOLE EDITORIAL! : 11/1/2009
I would sincerely like to know why the liberals who post comments on this web site have nothing nice to say about John Leonard. Surely, they can find something nice to say if they think long and hard enough. All they can do is to attack Jane Bonner. They take one line out of an editorial from this newspaper, cite it as gospel, but ignore the fact that this newspaper has endorsed Jane Bonne. This newspaper is right. Jane deserves another term.

YOU ARE NOT A CONSEVATIVE! : 11/1/2009
If ever a ridiculous comment was posted on this site, it was the last comment from a person who claims to be a Conservative, but who will vote for ultra-liberal John Leonard, instead of Conservative Jane Bonner. Why? He or she will not tell us. To the blogger: If you do not feel you can vote for Jane, tell us why, in specific terms, she does not deserve a second term. You are one of Lesko's staff people who are paid to put out false information in attempt to deceive. Tell us what specifically John Leonard stands for and what he has done to win you vote. You are a fraud. You are a liberal Democrat posting false information. Conservatives love Jane, as do members of all parties. Jane is opposed by left-wing radicals only, and that includes you!!

So Jane but this time I cannot vote for you. : 10/31/2009
I am a registered conservative. I voted against O Bama. I think he is destroying this country. More spending and he is for abortion, which is murder. I never crossed party lines until now. This is a local election so it won't have a national impact. I voted for Jane Bonner when she first was running. I can no longer support her. I do not want to even go into how many things she had done but I am afraid I have to vote for John Leonard this time. I will vote for all of the Republicans but for Jane I cannot trust her judgment anymore in reference to her decisions that she is making for the future of Rocky Point and the other communities. Sorry Jane I trusted you the first time but not any more.

Jane wants Rocky Point to Look Like Queens from her idears : 10/31/2009
Jane Represents dense projects for Rocky Point if she is elected. She was told by her close friends on how to run this district and the sewers that she wants for this area. Jane and her friends wanted Fairfield also Vision Long Island wanted it also so they could hook up a sewer line to downtown Broadway in Rocky Point. Jane Bonner wants apartments to be built on top of stores. Who is paying for all of this YOU the tax payers. If Jane is elected that is what is going to happened. The people stopped Fairfield as of now. But if she is elected and gets the sewers she wants than this Rocky Point and the Fairfield project will be built. We do not need sewers or dense projects like this in Rocky Point, we have enough traffic. The state did a study on traffic on 25A they said that 10,000 cars travel on that road every day. How many more cars do we want every day 20M, 30M. Do we want Rocky Point to look like Queens. Well this is what Jane Bonner wants, she says she is for open space, were? not in Rocky Point. When you introduce sewers into any given area, the lid to expansion is lifted and now Rocky Point will be under pressure from all types of developers and the State for more housing projects etc. Jane knows that but she still wants sewers and more dense projects. Vote her out and we won't have these problems. Thank You. Bobby Hopkins

Jane bonner does not think on her own : 10/31/2009
It seems that you are trying to protect Jane Bonner. You just do not want people to know the truth about Jane. Now its too late in the game for her. She is losing and will lose big. Jane Bonner has no one to blame but her lawyer friends that gave her advice how to run her district. ( read the Sun news paper) it says it in black and white in the editorial endorsement, this is not a lie the writer of the sun paper even knows. If she used her own sense than things would be different. Its like my mother used to say, don't listen to anybody, you have a mind of your own. That is what God gave us a mind for, to think on our own. When you have friends telling someone what to do, this is what happens. They think they are helping you but in fact they are destroying their lives instead. Its a shame this is what they did to Jane...

VOTERS BEWARE : 10/31/2009
The people posting comments on this site who do not like Jane Bonner and smear her every chance they get, are paid political extremists working for Mark Lesko and Marsha Laufer. Lesko and Laufer want a puppet representing Council District 2, so that they can pull the strings. The only way they think they can do it is to smear Jane Bonner. It is a political fact that If you cannot say anything nice about the candidate you are supporting, smear his opponent. They can't say anything positive about John Leonard, so they attack Jane personally. It will not work. Do not believe the rantings of the liberals who are attacking Jane. They have a vested interest in the outcome of the election. They want the jobs they claim Jane got for friends. They are being told what to say by Lesko and Laufer. They have been promised huge rewards for their blogs. This newspaper knows the truth. STOP THE SMEARS! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUSELVES!

THE FISHERMEN LOVE JANE : 10/31/2009
It is Holloween and the left wing extremists who masguerade as the voice of the fishermen in Council Disrtict 2 are out in force again with their slanderous comments about the fisherman's heroine, JANE BONNER. The fishermen and fisherwomen in Council District 2 love Jane Bonner. The lobbyists may not, but the lobbyists are special interst groups representing themselves and their socialist agendas. This newspaper got it right. John Leonard alligned himself with lobbyists and not the common people who know and love Jane. She represents people, not the special interests. She deserves to be re-elected. She will win in a landslide.

TRUE WORDS : 10/31/2009
"This council district election is very important for the people of Rocky Point and the surrounding hamlets. Jane Boner is so controlled she had to let Richard Amper write a letter for her and to inject his input on yet another study. This proves what a lot of people thought, Jane is not a free thinker. She was always told how to run her council district which she was elected to by lawyers and other political friends. I think the people need a change from this way of running this district. She excepted campaign contributions from Fairfield. Where are the ethics here, excepting campaign contributions from a builder knowing that the community is dead set against this project.. This has lot of people thinking. It was the people who stopped Fairfield. Not Jane Bonner. On October 10, 2009 there was a story in the North Shore Sun in which she is quoted saying, "That's because there hasn't been a good proposal," Ms. Bonner said in a telephone interview. What took her so long to come out against Fairfield project? In my opinion it looks like she was scared to say anything that would offend the builder, lawyers and local officials who in the first place wanted to get this project approved no matter how many people were against the project. When it comes to problems in the area like storm water run-off, every time someone calls her, she says were getting a study done. People have had it with Jane Bonner, its time for her to go. John Leonard has helped with some of our problems which is a start, a far better outcome than a study with the Storm water problem, Without the study John Leonard helped in saving tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars from her waste full thinking, another study. So register to vote and vote her out. This council district needs help and that's John Leonard, he help us fishermen also.. Don't forget to vote and if you did not vote in years, register to vote we must vote Jane Bonner out this time for good..."

Their stance on Recreational Fishing : 10/31/2009
10/28/09 The New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing recently sent questionnaires to the following candidates running for offi ce in The Town of Brookhaven: Mark Lesko, Martin Haley, Jane Bonner, John Leonard. Listed below are the questions that each candidate was given along with their replies. (Each candidate was informed in writing that their responses would be made public) #1. Do you believe that recreational fi shing aids the economy for The Town of Brookhaven? Mark Lesko: Absolutely Martin Haley: Did not respond to questionnaire Jane Bonner: Yes John Leonard: Recreational fi shing certainly boosts Brookhaven’s economy, In Rocky Point, for example fi sherman from across Long Island fi sh our north shore beaches. And then afterwards visit our restaurants and bars, shop our stores and fi ll their vehicles gas tanks at area gas stations. Fisherman are an integral part of our local economies. #2. Are You in favor of increased fi shing opportunities and additional fi shing access within the Town of Brookhaven? Mark Lesko: Yes Martin Haley: Did not respond to questionnaire Jane Bonner: yes John Leonard: Yes #3. Are you willing to increase enforcement of existing codes and statutes in theTown of Brookhaven ? Mark Lesko: As Supervisor I have already started doing that through my Quality of Life Task Force Martin Haley: Did not respond to Questionnaire Jane Bonner: Yes John Leonard: Brookhaven Town is doing just that, thanks to Supervisor Mark Lesko’s Quality of Life Taskforce. #4. Sincerely, William A. Young President New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing Its funny how Jane didn't give a hoot last year about the effect the closure of Shoreham Beach had on teh community last year. Its also pretty funny how she agrees the fishing advisory board should be comprised up people that have no financial interest with the town while she tried to slip Scott Santamaria in through the back door. What a flipper she is. Flip Flop just before the Election. I am not surprised at all by her desperate actions.

The Sun : 10/31/2009
The North Shore Sun should be ashamed of themselves in regards to their article endorsing Jane Bonner. They claim Leonard was too quick to align himself with a fishing lobbyist group? Is there something wrong with recreational fisherman? He was involved all throughout last year with Mr. Lesko in regaining the access to Shoreham Beach for fishing. They also bash him for a last minute negative campaign? Does the truth hurt? Much of the negative campaigning had nothing to do with Mr. Leonard at all. They were published by different groups so all of the public would know the truth about Jane. The Sun's closing statement was that Jane has been doing a good job and has earned 2 more years? What a crock! What she did was alienate and discriminate against the fisherman. She violated their rights! "But we do wish his campaign could have focused on issues more germane to the offi ce he’s seeking: Not to belittle efforts to redevelop the former power plant in Shoreham or to combat the problem of drugs on the North Shore, we’re just not sure a Brookhaven councilman’s going to lead those efforts" Are you kidding me? Who is the ignoramous who wrote this article? I guess the dead deer and the ferrile cats are the real issues that are more important to the bone head who wrote the article. What a shame. It is a real shame to see the Sun endorse someone who violated the rights of so many. They wrote about the patronage positions. Are u kidding me? Lesko didn't hire his Deputy. She was already there; all he did was change her title. Bonner hired her fiancee and lied to the public about it. She also fired good people to have them replaced by her family. Unlike filling a part time position with your kids. Something is seriously wrong with the article and the writer.

Hanoi Jane : 10/31/2009
Jane may be registered as a Conservative however she is as liberal as they come. She needs a swift boot in the can right out of office. She has done nothing for the cummunity except discriminate against several people and waste an enormous amount of money. Let her take care of the cats and the deer on her own time. Vote in John Leonard being that he has the intelligence needed for the position.

Not being honest : 10/31/2009
Jane did hire family members and many, many, many people that were required to be hired because of their connection to her. She does not listen - just talk & talk & talk - and very loudly. Enough with this about her making this her full time job - this was never intended to be a full-time position, but a part-time one. Get off that horse. The GPS matter was well under way before she as elected, so she again is taking credit for something she had little or nothing to do with. Loud does not mean better - just loud. Give me substance - you had your chance and it was not a good one. Time for a change.

JANE BONNER IS A WINNER : 10/31/2009
The person who claims to have been a member of the NSBPOA for 38 years should know better. Jane Bonner is a legislator and not an executive. She does not "run the district." She represents the constituents of Council District 2. She was elected in 2007. She won the Republican Primary with 78% of the vote. She is a winner. With Holloween upon us, you bring up "Freddy Kreuger." You should know that Freddy is a liberal Democrat and will probably support John Leonard. Jason (remember Friday the 13th) is also a liberal Democrat. All stars of horror pictures are liberal Democrats. They all inflict pain and suffering like liberal Democrats. Freddy and Jason would do a better job of representing Council Distict 2 than John Leonard (who would say no to them?), but fortunately we have a heroine for a candidate - JANE BONNER. She has taken on the likes of Mark Lesko. Freddy and Jason would run the other way if they saw her coming. She stands up to villains. She is a woman of the people. The fishermen and fisherwoman love her. The NSBPOA loves her. You may have lived here all those years, but you will be standing all alone on November 3. Jane is a winner. This Newspaper is right on the mark.

The Suns Editorials : 10/30/2009 : 10/30/2009
The Suns Editorials : 10/30/2009 I am a member of the North Shore Beach Property Owners Association and lived in Rocky Point for the past 38 years. I cannot believe this remark about the NSBPOA . It seems like someone like Jane Bonner had to tell you to ad this. But you do not know the facts. John Leonard reached out to the North Shore Beach Community and helped with drainage problems. Jane Bonner did not. Just more and more wasteful studies and wasted tax payer monies is her usual response all the time. In your Suns Editorials 10/30/09 you said "Mr. Leonard was also too quick to align himself with people who only supported him because they dislike Ms. Bonner. (Sorry, John, but fishing lobbyists and the North Shore Beach Property Owners Association would have supported Freddy Kreuger over Jane Bonner, so why should we be impressed that they got behind you?)" Why should we be impressed that you got behind Jane Bonner. Let me tell you something the way Jane Bonner ran this district and the way she treated people, Freddy Kreuger would have done a better job. Vote for a winner John Leonard.

JANE BONNER WILL WIN : 10/30/2009
The person who thinks that Jane Bonner should be called "Jane Obanna "should be a stand-up comedian. That would be a funny line if Jane were a liberal, but she is a conservative. The people who own Fairfield Properties contribute to everybody who might some day be able to help them. This is what the rich folks do. Has Marsha Laufer demanded that all of her candidates accept no contribuitions from developers? NO! Developers contribute to Democrats. Remember President Obama's buddy, Tony Resko, the Chicago developer? I would suggest that you call the President and recommend that he change his name to President Bonner. Michelle can change her name to Jane. Either way, Jane Bonner will win in a huge landslide.

EVERYBODY ENDORSES JANE : 10/30/2009
To Puppet Read this: You left-wing liberals should know by now that when newspapers endorse a candidate, they all say something nice about the candidate not being endorsed, and, in addition, let you know that the endorsed candidate is not perfect. This is a pattern they all follow. The point is that they endorsed Jane. Another loss for the liberal, Leonard, Lesko, Laufer losers. They want a puppet in Council District 2. Just as Buffalo Bob pulled tjhe strings of Howdy Doody in early television, Lesko will be pulling the strings of John Leonard. Leonard was tapped by Lesko to run this race in the hope of having a vote on the Town Board he can always control. Lesko should worry about his own race and stop picking on strong, independent women like Jane. Jane has the support of this newspaper. She has the support of everybody. She listens to her constituents. The liberal Leonard, Lesko, Laufer losers have to go.

Jane bonner calls : 10/30/2009
Calls from Jane Bonner : 10/30/2009 Jane Bonner has an automated phone message. It sounds like she is drowning and needs help. She is very upset because the truth got out on a number of issues that she did not want the voters to know about, town workers being hired, fired and taxes. Now they know and she calls and says John Leonard lied in a recorded message. The facts are the facts. How come Jane did not mention that she excepted campaign money from Fairfield Properties, because she does not want you to know that. She wants the voters to vote for her just on her word. But guess what Jane, the voters are not dumb as you think they are. and have seen enough of your politics. People can now see right threw the BS. You are being exposed for what you are. You call yourself conservative but conservatives do not act like that. This is why the republicans lost the White House to Oboma. Because elected officials who call themselves Republicans Conservatives and are not. That is why you should lose your seat. Elected officials that are not true to their party but to their specials interest groups like you have that control you. May I call you O Bonna

puppet READ THIS : 10/30/2009
This is what you think. You have not talked to many people yet I can see. Election day you will be shocked when John Leonard will win. People have had it with a person that is controlled by her friends see the Suns Endorsement it says it right in their. Or maybe I will copy and paste it here again for you to read. It's the fact. Stop running from the truth. See below what the Sun paper that gave Jane an Endorsement had to say. Everybody can't be making this up. "There were also times when Ms. Bonner seemed to be relying on the advice of others instead of stepping up and being her own voice (our editorial board can recall countless interviews where Ms. Bonner was merely repeating what a voice in the background was saying and not just answering our questions herself, which is why we weren't surprised when she wanted to take our candidate questionnaire home with her instead of filling it out on the spot. We didn't allow her to)." WHO IS THE puppet NOW...

JANE IN A LANDSLIDE : 10/30/2009
The previous comment was posted by one of the people who are paid by the Democratic Party to write blogs attacking Jane Bonner. The comment is liberal propaganda. Jane has a solid record of service to the community. She shares our values. She votes the way the people in Council District 2 want her to vote with the exception of a hand full of left-wingers who want to install a puppet for Mark Lesko shold Mr. Lesko be re-elected. Jane supports open space. She supports the recreational fishermen and fisherwomen in Council District 2. She supports the humane treatment of animals. She supports lower taxes. She supports smaller governemnt. She supports our veterans, our police and our fire fighters. She does not care what party you belong to. If you are a constituent, she will represent you and help you. She has a record of outstanding constituent service. She is independent. Neither Martin Haley of Mark Lesko own her vote. She supports you, the people of Council District 2. She deserves a second term. Vote for yourselves on election day by voting for JANE BONNER.

Jane Bonner should not be elected again. : 10/30/2009
Jane Bonner excepted campaign contributions from Fairfield Properties. How could a council person except money from a developer that wanted to build a dense project in Rocky Point in which the community was against. Maybe that is why she took so long to oppose this project. She was in between the builder and the community and sided with the builder all those years or she would have been against the project, She wants sewers so she can have more dense projects built in Rocky Point. More traffic more taxes Jane O Bonner, we must vote her out. She is told what to support and what not too from her close lawyer friends. She is not for the people in this community, she puts on a good show. When people oppose her she sits their and laughs. She even calls people on her cell phone at town hall meetings to get instructions on how to vote on issues. She should be defeated. She has no plan for Rocky Point, the only plan she has is what she is told to do. John Leonard is the answer. He is not a phony. He thinks on his own. Jane Bonner never wanted to debate John because she cannot answer any of the hard questions that would be brought to the table, unless she can get instructions from her friends who tell her what to say. We need a person that stands on their own for this job. Rocky Point is too important to give this job to someone that does not have the experience and the no how to get things done on their own. John Leonard showed his leadership already with drains for Rocky Point and he opposes dense development in which Jane does not. Remember Fairfield, she left the community in which she represents holding the bag, and said nothing until election day was on the horizon than she said. "I will do what the community wants". I think it's a little too late for that. We do not need a council district person that is making a fool out of the voters. We have woke up to those tricks. Vote her out....
