Coram resident Mary Etta Seymore died July 9 at Medford Multicare Center for Living. She was 80.
She was born in Crescent City, Fla., to Ed and Gussie Smith on Sept. 20, 1927. Formerly of Quogue and Riverhead, Ms. Seymore spent her career working as a nurses' aide.
In her free time, Ms. Seymore enjoyed attending church, sewing and cooking, according to family. Her daughter, Mary Ann Trent, remembers eating Sunday dinners and having her mother's mouth-watering sweet potato pie for dessert.
In addition to her keen fashion sense, Ms. Seymore enjoyed planning family events and mingling with friends, family said. "She had all of these kids and still managed to keep herself looking good and have a good attitude," Ms. Trent said. "She was a well-rounded person."
Most of all, family members remember Ms. Seymore as a "dedicated mother" who would always make room for additional company.
Ms. Seymore is survived by her children, Theodore Jr., Ernestine, Herman, and Jesse Smith, all of Coram, Melvin, Delores Worthington, Marion, and Mary Ann Trent, all of Riverhead, and Mae, of Ridge; her sister, Rebecca Brown of Crescent City, Fla.; 26 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by two children, Betty and David.
Pastor Roy Pennon Sr. presided over the homegoing service held July 15 at Galilee Church of God in Christ. Interment followed at Riverhead Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel, Riverhead.
