At least not near the finish line. Ventura, 30, of Glen Cove had a bit more left in him, so he went back onto the course and reran the 3 1/2-mile run with his mother, Christine, who was competing in her first triathlon. In the Ventura family, Pete had to take second billing. The Ventura headline of the day was not Pete's victory, but his mother's first foray into the sport. "This was a big deal for her," he said. Fluke fishing 'really good' http://www2.timesreview.com/SUN/stories/S071808_Fish_MG Charlie at Rocky Point Fishing Stop explained that fluke fishing has been really good, especially around Buoy 5. Some of the largest fluke are around 7 pounds. Stripers can be taken on diamond jigs off the deep Sound wrecks, with big bluefish there as well. Scup are still tight to the beaches in as little as 10 to 20 feet of water. The big bluefish, to 12 pounds, working the ridges in deep water, apparently keep the porgies close. Charlie suggests that anglers looking for weakfish ought to give Cranes Neck a try, especially the rips. There are fluke in that area, too.
