Voters in two local library districts -- Mattituck-Laurel and Floyd Memorial in Greenport -- approved budget requests in balloting on Tuesday.
Mattituck-Laurel Library
Voters approved a $1.165 million budget, increased from the current $1.124 million spending plan, by a vote of 83 to 16.
The increase will cost the average homeowner with a house assessed at $7,000 an additional $10.15 per year, according to library director Kay Zegel.
Costs of personnel and energy accounted for much of the increased spending, Ms. Zegel said.
Floyd Memorial Library
Voters in Greenport, East Marion and Orient approved an $891,152 budget, up from $860,490. Increases for personnel, heating oil and library materials account for the increased spending, according to library director Lisa Richland.
Greenporters' share of the budget is $467,042 and the vote there was 96 to 9. Those in East Marion and Orient voted 36 to 17 to support their budget share of $389,831.
The new budget will cost the average homeowner with a house assessed at $6,000 an additional 3.5 percent or $5.05 a year, Ms. Richland said.
Children who voted their choice of cookie to be served at Saturday's showing of "Nim's Island" chose chocolate chip by a landslide. The unsuccessful candidates included Oreos, peanut butter and oatmeal, Ms. Richland said.
