Greenport bicyclist injured
61-year-old airlifted to hospital Sunday afternoon   1 comments below

Arthur Fuentes-Chang, 61, of Broad Street in Greenport, N.Y., was hit by a car as he rode a bicycle through the intersection of Center and Second streets in the village around 4:18 p.m. on Sunday, said Southold Town police. According to the report, Mr. Fuentes-Chang was northbound on Second Street, stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Center Street and proceeded through, when a vehicle driven by Jaqueline Bradley, 18, of Greenport struck him in the middle of the intersection.

Police said Ms. Bradley failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign but did not say whether she was cited in the incident at press time. Members of the Greenport Fire Department treated Mr. Fuentes-Chang at the scene, and he was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for further treatment, said the police report.

Why no ticket? : 10/13/2009
This is a common occurrence when a cyclist is hit even when there is clear evidence or an admission of guilt, charges are never laid. The driver in this case ran a stop sign to hit the cyclist, causing severe injuries, but not even a ticket for running the stop sign, much less the criminal charges appropriate for an assault with a deadly weapon with grievous bodily harm. Where is the prosecution, where is law enforcement? Why are cyclists considered targets in a free-fire zone?
