Police: Greenport man exposed himself to youths
James Lawrence is arrested again for public lewdness

James Lawrence
James Lawrence, 33, of 430 Second St. in Greenport, was charged with public lewdness and burglary at 2:33 a.m. on Monday after he broke into a house on Main Street in the village, went to a window and exposed himself to two girls, ages 11 and 15, who were in a house across the street, Southold Town Police reported.

Police said that Mr. Lawrence had gained the girls' attention by whistling and throwing pebbles at their window.

Mr. Lawrence served time in jail last year for several previous counts of public lewdness in the village and has been out of jail "for some time now," said Southold Town Police Capt. Martin Flatley.

Capt. Flatley said that Mr. Lawrence, in custody at Southold Town Police headquarters until his court appearance on Friday, will likely face longer jail time this time around.

"Greenport residents are very concerned about his behavior, and rightly so," said the police captain. "It's alarming enough without him breaking into people's houses."

TWISTED??? : 4/9/2010
To the person who feels the story was "TWISTED". It appears that you back this pedophile. The public part of the whole thing is not the issue here. So how does exposing himself to children sit well with you? That was a pretty ignorant statement on your part.

It is likely he will only get a few months in jail. He will be out again. The justice system is a complete failure. Each one of his incidents got a bit bolder than the last. Let him out again and who know what will happen next? You can always see him hanging around town with a bunch of his buddies. Almost like he's a hero. I guess they must praise what this fool did. I would not hang with anyone who did this.

Opportunities await in prison : 4/9/2010
Sounds like it is time for him to go start a career making license plates in prison.
No sympathy for repeat offenders that don’t bring any value to our world.

How many chances do you get : 4/9/2010
This is just one example of how someone can get into trouble and get back on the streets over and over again. People wake up and get angry about things. The world is scary enough and kids have a tough time negotiating their day to day lives to have people do riduculous things and yet there is no consequences or at least limited consequences. Don't want to lock him up...find then get the man some help for crying out loud.

Twisted Story : 4/8/2010
There is nothing twisted except this guy. You are obviously not one of the women that had him "pleasuring" himself outside your kitchen window. It is very scary, and his behavior is excalating. You shouldn't "like" him either.

So you tell me wats it's called..If you ask me he is a pedifile..There is plenty of grown women in the area not to mention he has a woman oh and let me not forget children of his..To show his private areas to young children if you ask me this man does not need to be let on the streets and around children..You mean to tell me he cant find a woman his own age that will consent to such a matter..Sad sad story.

: 4/8/2010
ITS REALLY NICE HOW THE NEWSPAPER TWISTS THE STORY UP JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T LIKE SOMEBODY. THAT IS CRAZY. IF YOU ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT IT YOU CAN'T BE CHARGED WITH PUBLIC LEWDNESS IF YOUR NOT IN THE PUBLIC. SO THAT RIGHT THERE DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.
