Peconic man charged with DWI after police chase and crash   1 comments below

A 24-year-old Peconic man was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawfully fleeing a police vehicle, failure to maintain lane and driving without a license after crashing his car in Cutchogue Sunday afternoon, Southold Town police said.

Julio Castro ignored a patrol car's lights and sirens when an officer attempted to stop his 1998 Mercury on Oregon Road, according to reports. During the chase Mr. Castro lost control of the car, hit a dirt embankment and rolled several times in a field before the vehicle came to rest. Mr. Castro was found lying outside of the car, police said.

Mr. Castro was airlifted by a county police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center.  Cutchogue and Mattituck Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

Did anyone bother to check Mr. Castro's immigration status?
