Leo S. Kowalski, age 87, of Cleveland, Tenn., formerly of Fairfield, Conn., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus at his church. He was a veteran of World War II and served his country in the United States Navy. He fought in the invasion at Normandy and received a Good Conduct Medal. He worked as an inspector in the Bullard Company Machine Shop in Fairfield, Conn., for 40 years. He retired early and traveled extensively throughout the United States. He settled in Key West, Fla., until moving to Cleveland eight years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Kowalski, and parents, Walter and Waleria (Najelska) Kowalski.

He is survived by his three precious daughters, Sandra Moriarty of Cleveland, Tenn., and Catherine Kowalski and Joyce Kowalski, both of Milford, Conn.; two brothers, Frank Kowalski and Walter Kowalski Jr., both of Jamesport; one sister, Edith Sawicki of Southold; and three grandchildren, Kelly and Kaitlyn Moriarty and Andrew Kowalski. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family received friends Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Grissom Funeral Home, which had charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomfh.net. Mass of the Resurrection was also held Jan. 30 at St. Therese Catholic Church. Interment was private. Members of the Knights of Columbus served as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4572, P.O. Box 2684, Cleveland, TN 37320.
