Robert W. Gillispie III of East Marion, a well known and highly respected real estate broker, died Dec. 12, 2009, at the age of 71.

Funeral services were officiated by the Rev. Peter Kelley of First Presbyterian Church in Southold at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home and graveside at Central Cemetery in Orient on Dec. 19, 2009.

Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio, on April 1, 1938, to Emily Lewis and Robert W. Gillispie Jr. In about 1900, his grandfather, Robert W. Gillispie Sr., built a summer home on Dam Pond in East Marion. In 1940, the family moved to East Marion permanently.

Bob graduated from the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., in 1957 and from Yale University in 1961. He became a real estate broker with the Walter Silleck Agency of Cutchogue in 1967.

He opened his own business, the North Fork Real Estate Agency, in Southold in 1970, and operated it until his death.

He is survived by a sister, Ann Gillispie of Greenport; a son, Robert W. Gillispie IV, daughter-in-law, Heidi, and three grandsons, Bryan, Kerry and Braden, all of San Martin, Calif.; a son, Jeffrey Gillispie of Nashville, Tenn.; and a daughter, Tambra Gillispie, also of Nashville.

Bob was an excellent photographer and loved the beauty of the North Fork and its surrounding waters. He was a fine sailor, golfer and enjoyed traveling in his RV.

Bob was a gentle person, kind, helpful and caring. He will live in the hearts of his family and friends.
