Siller advanced at county tourney   0 comments below

Shelter Island senior Katie Siller and her doubles partner made it through the first round of the Suffolk County Division IV individual championships at Shoreham-Wading River High School Tuesday but no further.

Siller and partner Clara Schmidt-Cophoff of the Southold/Greenport/Shelter Island Clippers beat Rocky Point's Emily Rutter and Joanna McDonnell, 6-2, 6-2, before coming up short against Westhampton Beach's Sam Lacetera and Rachel Paoletta, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4.

Siller and Schmidt-Cophoff showed great resiliency. They trailed by 4-1 in the first set before forcing a tiebreaker, and were down by 5-1 in the final set before battling back, only to fall short.

“It was a really, really close match,” Clippers Coach Allison Krupski said. “It took them a while to warm up, but Katie and Clara really gave it their all.”

Siller plays the final regular season match of her high school career today, October 22, in Southampton at 4:30 p.m.
