First things first: The winners of the tournament were Bruce Taplin, Ceil Kraus, Liz Lechmanksi and Eric Singer. Second place went to Jack Cortner, Dot Ross, Hans Schmid and Cliff Clark. Third place went to Bob Hall, Betty Kontje, Ann Beckwith and Dave Clark. Fourth place went to Gretel French, Sandra Lucas, Rich O'Connell and Charles Hoffman.
It was a sunny day and everyone had a wonderful time. Carol Loper said, “Whether we won or lost we all had a good time.” That is what golf is all about, having a great time and meeting new people.
Rich O'Connell was boasting about his achievement of hitting the ball from 80 yards into the cup on the second hole. Great job, Rich!
There are lots of events planned at the club for the summer. On July 12th there is a blind partner tournament. On, July 13th the women from Sag Harbor will be joining the women from the club for a great day of golf at 4 p.m.
Don't forget about the second annual luau on July 19th. Last year was a packed house and we are looking forward to another sell-out evening. There will be music and lots of door prizes. Tickets are available at the club but there is limited space. Please get them now.
The club is in need of volunteers for the Junior Golf Tournament on Thursday, August 13th. Please call the club at 749-0416 for more information about all of the events.
Heard at the club: After a particularly poor game of golf, a popular club member skipped the clubhouse and started to go home. As he was walking to the parking lot to get in his car, a policeman stopped him and asked, “Did you tee off on the ninth hole about 20 minutes ago?”
“Yes,” the golfer responded.
“Did you happen to hook your ball so that it went over the trees and off the course?”
“Yes, I did,” he said. “How did you know?”
“Well,” said the policeman very seriously, “your ball flew out onto the road and crashed through a driver's windshield. The car went out of control, crashing into five other cars and a fire truck. The fire truck couldn't make it to the fire, and the building burned down. So, what are you going to do about it?”
The golfer thought it over carefully and responded, “I think I'll close my stance a little bit, tighten my grip and lower my right thumb.”
