He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; his children, Nancy O'Donnell, Suzanne Hansen, Richard and Paul; his stepson, Edward Barrett; his brother, Robert; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Hering was predeceased by his stepdaughter, Jacqueline Duffy.
Funeral services were handled by Moloney's Hauppauge Funeral Home. Private cremation was entrusted to Nassau-Suffolk Crematory in Lake Ronkonkoma.
