The Blue Waves open the season against two of the top teams in the league in the Bellport Clippers and Half Hollow Hills East Thunderbirds.
"We can improve and go unbeaten, but we have to come out and win right away," Brennan said. "We need that positive reinforcement for the kids to believe in themselves."
Riverhead will be led this season by senior Nick Constandy, who just missed making the all-county team last year.
"Nick is a hard worker who has natural talent," Brennan said. "His head is really into this. His style is to be a frontrunner, hang in there and finish strong."
Three seniors -- Paul Warner, J. J. Razzano and Tom Houghton -- will all vie for the second, third and fourth positions.
Sophomore Pat Thomas returns in good shape, and Brennan is looking for him to continue to improve.
Brennan believes an undefeated season and a division title is possible.
"Most of these kids have worked hard for me since their freshmen year," he said. "This is a close group that has good chemistry. They are easygoing and train hard. They look out for each other. Their goal is to win the league and a number of them have a shot at all-county. There is not one superstar. They will all take a turn sharing the spotlight."
